From wasteland to city
Discover emblematic buildings along the water, such as the Seegmuller Tower and the Ciotadelle Lighthouse, as well as ACR-labeled sites such as the Malraux media library, the Strasbourd port and the COOP.
Over the last few years, a number of buildings and wastelands have been gradually brought back to life. Whether as restaurants, stores or alternative venues, they are breathing new life into Strasbourg. Here’s a rundown of some of them.
For a city, succeeding in transforming its industrial wastelands is a way of demonstrating its economic and political dynamism. In this respect, Strasbourg has been very active in recent years, revitalizing several areas that had fallen into disuse.
In this article, we focus more on the renaissance of consumer or alternative venues, rather than on real estate projects. Otherwise, we could of course have mentioned the Danube eco-neighborhood, the Archipel 2 urban projects and the Deux-Rives as a whole. What’s more, we’re talking here about places that have already resumed activity, not those that are on hold: we could have mentioned the Schutzenberger wasteland in Schiltigheim, or the former Lyautey military hospital.
