Meurthe et Moselle

On the front line

A border region – with Belgium and the then-annexed Moselle – and centrally located between the Meuse plains and the Vosges forest, Meurthe-et-Moselle played a significant role in the First World War, both geographically – in other words, physically – and even more so in human terms.

One hundred years later, with Europe now united, Meurthe-et-Moselle must be placed back at the centre of the history of the Western Front. Local institutions and stakeholders intend to rise to this challenge in terms of tourism and remembrance by directing you to the sites and landscapes that preserve the memory and traces of the Great War.
