Mines de l’Argentière
France’s 2nd-largest metalliferous deposit consists of a network of 16 gallery levels stretching some 500 m from north-east to south-west.
Historic sites and monuments
The gallery preserves both modern and pre-17th-century, certainly medieval, mining remains.
A series of excavations, the result of blasting the rock with fire, make this mining work unique in the Var region.
Of the ore-processing plant, which covered almost 6,000 m² from the top of the hill to the beach, a few walls remain, visible from the beach, including those of a washing basin transformed into a terrace.
